MacBook Screen & LCD Replacement in Phuket

MacBook LCD and screen express replacement in Phuket
With the increasing amount of MacBook models and all the colour variants, we have currently decided to stock LCDs only.
Since 2016, there are a number 91 distinct MacBook models including their different colour combinations.
For a small business on an island like Phuket in Thailand like ours, this is just impossible to stock.
However stocking the most common LCDs allows us to bypass the colour variants which makes the number of unique MacBook + MacBook Pro + MacBook Air models down to 24.
Replacing LCDs is a more time consuming job and takes on average a day however it’s what work best these days.
My MacBook screen is black here in Phuket, what shall I do?
A black MacBook screen often means a faulty laptop display which will have to be replaced.
However this fault can also be related to the MacBook not starting up or not being able to drive the display for some reason.
In any case, we’ll have to inspect the laptop before giving you an answer.
Luckily diagnosing a black MacBook screen is pretty straight forward.
We’ll quickly swap your screen with a known good working screen and test again.
If it works, then we’ll offer you an MacBook LCD replacement to replace your faulty MacBook LCD.
However if the screen case or shell is physically damaged (usually after a shock or fall), we’ll offer you an entire screen replacement as installing a new LCD in a damaged shell will crack the LCD again either during the installation process or soon after, so not worth it.
In case swapping the screen did not fix the issue, we’ll have to investigate and give you an answer within a couple of hours at most.

2016–2017 MacBook Pro Flexgate repairs in Phuket
In 2019, we discovered, among others in the repair community, the Flexgate issue on the 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pros 13″ and 15″ and recorded a video of it.
That video since then have nearly reached more than 90,000 views on Youtube as can be seen hereunder.
What is the Flexgate problem about on 2016–2017 MacBook Pro?
These MacBook screen models suffer from having a partially cut to a fully cut flex cable that is connecting the display LCD to a small PCB, flex cables that are not removable.
This causes the screen to first show the stage-light effect to the point of remaining black even with the lid opened, depending on the angle the lid is opened at.
This happens because of the shortness of the flex cables themselves as well as pressure exercised by opening and closing the lid repeatedly.
After a while those flex cables will break and this was caused by a bad design (short length)
In the next video, published a year after in 2020, we’ve introduced to the world a technique used to bridge each end of the cable to re-attach it and get the screen to work again.
The technique involves bridging each track of that tiny flex cable with very thin wires.
This repair technique has saved dozens of displays at our shop and most likely much much more since our video was viewed as well a 100,000 times on Youtube.
However this technique is now obsolete as there are other ways to repair that fault which we nowadays use at our store.
